About this entry

89% of key specs known. Missing: weight, hardening.

USA-assembled 39mm D4 solar diver (store listings created August 2025); the 42mm D4 (Epson VS42 with date) is a separate model, as is the Hong Kong-assembled DS4. Brand spec lists (identical on all three pages): 39mm, 46mm lug-to-lug, "11.96mm in height (13.18mm with crystal)", 20mm lugs, 20 ATM, 316L steel, locking screw-down crown, single-domed sapphire with AR coating (side not stated), "Japan Made Epson VS22", -10/+20 sec/month, USA assembly, 6 months' reserve from 6 hours of light. The sizing paragraph on the same pages rounds the height to 11.9mm (13.1mm with crystal); the spec-list figures are used. Its "case weight of 70.6 grams" is the D5 39mm figure repeated across Vaer's pages, so no weight is recorded; the Meridian pages' sizing paragraph is also copied from the D5 ("we now offer an even smaller 38mm option"). No date window on any 39mm photo (the 42mm, shown beside it in the gallery, has one), so the date is recorded as not displayed although the VS22 has one and the store tags the listings "date"; the "D4-MB-Macro" close-up on the Meridian Black 39mm page shows a date window and is a 42mm photo. Crystal: the product pages say single-domed and Vaer's solar-diver journal says the D4 has domed sapphire where the DS4 is flat; Vaer's February 2026 D4/DS4 guide says both use flat sapphire. Domed kept. Lume: 20 layers of X1 W20 on the dial and W20 on the hands per the spec lists (the comparison chart on the same pages says 25 layers) and a "Lumed Ceramic Bezel"; the Outerknown's lume photo shows glowing bezel markers. Unidirectional bezel and screw-down gasket-sealed caseback per the D4/DS4 guide; coin-edge bezel per the product pages; the 39mm pages give no click count (the 42mm D4 gallery labels a "120-Click Bezel" and an older Vaer journal post calls the D4 bezel a ceramic 120-click unit, but that is not carried over to the 39mm case). Solid caseback (etched wave pattern and Vaer logo; Outerknown logo on the Outerknown) from photos. Vaer cites 1970s Rolex and Doxa military divers for the dial and bezel and the military-issue Omega Seamaster for the case. Outerknown Marine: Vaer x Outerknown limited edition (listing created December 2025), black dial with sea-green accents, Outerknown logo on the dial, crown and caseback, and a bi-colour "Marine" bezel that the product page calls sapphire while its copied spec list says "Lumed Ceramic Bezel". Vaer's page and Le Nouveau Réveil (December 2025) give 200 pieces; American Surf Magazine's 150 pieces refers to the first Outerknown D4 of November 2024, a different edition not recorded here. Every D4 ships with an FKM strap plus a second strap or a bracelet. Prices are the store's variant prices: on the 39mm Meridians the option labels say "+$90" (steel) and "+$120" (jubilee) but the variants cost USD 70 and 100 more. Bracelet recorded is the Premium Steel Bracelet ("DS2/G2/D4/D5/D7/G5/G7 39mm" fitment): oyster-inspired flat three-piece links, removable screw links, custom-fit solid end links, quick-release pins, 20-16mm, milled clasp (bracelet page title), four micro-adjust positions at the clasp (Vaer FAQ); the Premium Jubilee bracelet is the other bracelet option. Meridian Black and Navy Matte were in stock on 2026-10-21; the Outerknown Marine was sold out. No hardening treatment is mentioned.
