About this entry

Zelos's first chronograph series, styled after the X-15 rocket plane, launched on Kickstarter in January 2018 and listed on zeloswatches.com in February 2018. Every ZX product is now sold out and in Zelos's Discontinued Models collection. Zelos numbers the colourways instead of naming them (ZX-1 to ZX-3 titanium, ZX-4 to ZX-6 bronze, ZX-7 Ti-Damascus, ZX-8 SR-71 dial edition) and sold each with either a Swiss Valjoux 7750 (this model) or a Seiko VK67 meca-quartz (separate model). The product text is shared by the whole series ("CUSN8 Marine Bronze or Titanium Case"), so the case material per colourway is read from the photos, confirmed for ZX-2 and ZX-3 by SeriousWatches; titanium grade not stated. Zelos: "Swiss ETA 7750 Elabore Grade". No day or date window on the dial (photos; SeriousWatches: "Date: No"): 30-minute counter at 12, small seconds at 9, 12-hour counter at 6, tachymeter on the flange. The Time Bum, reviewing the Ti-Damascus ZX-7, describes a decorated 7750 with a custom "turbofan" rotor seen through the sapphire caseback, and a signed, lumed "Nozzle" crown. Thickness is Zelos's "16mm Height" (not stated whether it includes the domed crystal). Lug width, fixed bezel, the ZX-2's zirconium-oxide ceramic bezel and the ZX-3's titanium bezel per SeriousWatches; Zelos lists "Zirconium Oxide 1500 Vickers hardness" ceramic bezels on "selected models". The ZX-1's glossy black bezel looks ceramic in the photos but is not confirmed. SeriousWatches gives "43mm diameter (including crown)" in its ZX-2 text but "Width (without crown) 43mm" in its table; Zelos just says 43mm. Two-layer sandwich dial with BGW9 lume; Zelos's lume photo for the white-subdial versions shows fully lumed subdials, which applies to the ZX-1. Sold on a Horween leather strap; Zelos also sold a titanium ZX bracelet separately ($119, solid end links, milled clasp with ratcheting quick adjust), so the bracelet fields are left blank. Crown screw-down, caseback attachment and weight not stated. Prices are the store's default "sg" option on the sold-out listings; each listing except the ZX-8's (one price, no options) also has an "hk" option (a country-pricing app, labelled "mlveda_country") at a higher price ($1,799; ZX-3 $1,999), not recorded. Launch pricing was lower: Kickstarter $379 to $2,087 across the series (aBlogtoWatch), and The Time Bum (October 2018) quotes $829 for a titanium or bronze automatic and $1,099 with a meteorite dial. The Ti-Damascus ZX-7 is a separate model. ZX-8 is Zelos's "ZX-8 Limited Edition": a dial CNC-cut from grade 6 titanium from a mission-flown SR-71 Blackbird (a "turkey feather" exhaust-nozzle part replaced during maintenance), thinned from 0.7mm to 0.4mm and left with the part's original marks, scratches and paint, so every dial differs; aBlogtoWatch says Zelos obtained only one such part. No edition size is stated. It was listed only with the 7750 (no Mechaquartz ZX-8 listing). Its case and bezel are identified as titanium from the photos (the same grey case and bezel as the ZX-3). Its listing reuses the generic bronze lume photo, so the ZX-8's lume is not shown.
