About this entry

95% of key specs known. Missing: hardening.

Vaer's lower-priced 40mm quartz field watch ("Standard Issue" collection, assembled in Hong Kong), in the date-display colourways (Calendar Field Black, Calendar Field White, Tactical Field). The 42mm S5 is a separate model; the S5 Tradition (no date) and S5 Dirty Dozen (Miyota 1L45 small seconds) are separate models too. Brand: 40mm, 48mm lug-to-lug, 9.4mm thickness, 20mm lugs, 10 ATM, 316L steel, locking screw-down crown (3 x 6mm), flat sapphire with internal AR, "case weight of 54 grams" (recorded as head weight), 40-month battery life, -10/+20 sec/month. Thickness is Vaer's single "9.4mm" figure; it does not say whether it includes the flat crystal. Movement: the technical-details lists on Calendar Field Black and White say "Japan Made GR12" with a date window (the date at 3 shows in every product photo), and Vaer's 2022 S3/S5 brochure says "Miyota GM12/GR12" (every S3 36mm page says GM12); the Tactical Field 40mm page says "Miyota GM12", repeating the S3 Tactical page, so GR12 is recorded for all three. The description bullets on the Calendar Field Black page also say "Miyota 2035", a no-date caliber that contradicts the date window, so it is not used. Screw-down caseback per the brochure; solid caseback seen in the Tactical Field photos (the Calendar Field galleries reuse a C5 Solar caseback photo). Plain fixed bezel. Tactical Field has a matte black PVD-coated case (cosmetic; no hardness claim) and green-tinted C3 lume (Vaer lume rating 9/10 vs 6/10 for the C1 Calendar Field Black). The Calendar Field White page's spec list says "Black matte dial", a template error (the dial is white); its lume is listed as Old Radium. Bracelet recorded is the Premium Steel Bracelet (+USD 90; Tactical gets the black PVD Premium V2 version at +USD 100): screw links, solid custom-fit end links, quick-release pins, 20-16mm, milled clasp with four spring-bar micro-adjust positions (Vaer bracelet page and FAQ). The watch pages' generic straps blurb ("friction fit pins... tapers to 18mm") describes Vaer's older Standard bracelet. The S5 store listings date from September 2021 (Calendar Field Black), August 2022 (White) and January 2023 (Tactical; the page says it was released in 2022); whether the earliest batches had today's movement was not checked, so no release year is recorded. The Tactical Field page's "36mm case sizing" sentence is copied from the S3. No independent review of the S5 was found. No hardening treatment is mentioned. All three were in stock on 2026-10-21.
